*Paradoxical Commandments -Kent M.Keith (American, 1949~ )
People are often unreasonable, illogical,
and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway....
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
--Last week, my father and I talked about my dream and future. Although I try to do my best to achieve my dream and not give up, sometimes it is just..too hard for me. This poem is my favorite because it matches with my complicated mind right now...Since everything is unknown and not clear, I often become depressed and want to give up all things. However, I read this poem and become settled down and comforted. I think this poem does not have deep meanings or lots of figurative languages or difficult SAT words, but it just makes me feel better and try hard again to become what I want to be.
